my Daddy just passed away recently @ 86 so these memories are running rampant through my mind. I agree that they were the best store-bought cookies ever. The real reason they stopped making these cookies is because they used "real" chocolate and it became very expensive over time. Nothing else compares. Please we need to unite and get Nabisco to bring the Ideal bar cookie back. I am thinking of starting a "petition" that would go to Nabisco we all NEED these Ideal bars back on the shelves of our local stores. What is one thing in the world that I could change would be world peace. Still, it is the Oreo that has become the icon.. Intended to imply hydrogen and oxygenthe two chemicals that make up waterthe result has a more clinical, less roll-off-the-tongue convention to it, and instead evokes hydrogen peroxide, a chemical you probably dont want to drink. You would not be sorry.. Yes, that has been over 30 yrs ago. One or the other of us would always make a special stop at the only little store in town that stocked them and between my sister and I they could not keep enough on the shelf. And that was the keythe slightly salty peanut butter. the real reason is that it was the perfect cookie. I loved those cookies. To the lady who stated that little debbie bars tasted like the ideal bars, must not ever had the real Nabisco Ideal bars. Remember biting into them and then dunking them in milk in such a way that milk would fill then void. When Nabisco first started, the biscuit cookies and crackers were stored in large bins, or cracker barrels and sold at country grocery stores by the scoopful. Someone else posted a comment mentioning how they thought that they must not be going crazy, they really did exist. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. It appears we're not alone! I never got over losing the Ideal Bars. The company was improving the cookies, making them more attractive to the modern health-conscious consumer. I used to ask for them in my Easter basket and in my Christmas stocking! I'm sure that each Ideal cookie produced will be picked up at the factory by those of us who are in love with them. You can't find anything that even comes close to the taste. We put the lil debbie's the freezer (as close as you can get, but not the same) and everytime the grand kids here me say not like an Ideal!! Maybe someday we'll get 'em back! I would bite off one end and submerge it in a glass of ice cold milk, it would absorb the milk and the center would be soft encased in the crunchy chocolate.
